The infallible Word Part :1
You might have even heard the catchy quote “led by the Word, not the world”. Christians are encouraged to not just be a hearer of the Word but a doer. The Bible is Inspired by the Holy Spirit. To believe the Bible is infallible is to agree that it’s completely trustworthy as a guide to salvation. It is the life of faith that will not fail to accomplish its purpose.
Infallible Definition: incapable of making mistakes or being wrong.
If we say we’re Christians/aka followers of Christ, we should want to know the character of the Lord we claim. We should want to know how He calls us to live. In a world that is saturated in “living your truth” because the truth is, whatever you want it to be. The Bible reminds us that it is God’s word that is truth. A firm foundation, not based on our ever-changing feelings, but rather on trusting God’s infallible word.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Let me back it up and say that I, for about 35 years of my life, didn’t fully believe the Bible necessarily pertained to me. Personally, I just didn’t think it was really that important. I said all the things. “It’s too black and white” I've heard others questioned its accuracy, so eventually I question it. I cherry-picked what felt right, and disregarded what didn’t. Anything pertaining to sin, repentance, or hearing about the lake of fire, aka Hell !! yaaa.. no thanks, it just wasn’t for me. Those parts left me uneasy. Give me baby Jesus in the manger. The gentle love of a Christ, and all his kindness, mercy, and acceptance. Give me the Jesus who sat with the sinners and died for my sins. I liked hearing the stories in the gospels, but that was about it for me... Old Testament was once thought to be boring and dry. I just didn’t understand the Bible within my fleshly approach. I was resistant... I'll share where things began to change but before then:
Let's step back to a brief History lesson; compliments of Wikipedia and Gotquestions.com
“The earliest compilation, containing the first five books of the Bible is called the Torah (meaning "law", "instruction", or "teaching") or Pentateuch ("five books”)It is also known in the Jewish tradition as the Written Torah
The term "Bible" can refer to the Hebrew Bible or the Christian Bible, which contains both the Old and New Testaments.
Scholars generally recognize three languages as original biblical languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek.”
I mean.. thank God they translated the Bible to the English language. One of the reasons we see different versions of the Bible is because of the number of manuscripts available, and over time the English language has changed dramatically. Old English sounds and reads differently than modern English.
I came across this simple explanation through Gotquestions.com
“ Through the centuries, minor differences arose in the various copies of the Scriptures. The vast majority of these differences are simple spelling variants. Inverted words (one manuscript says “Christ Jesus” while another says “Jesus Christ”), or an easily identified missing word. In short, over 99 percent of the biblical text is not questioned. Of the less than 1 percent of the text that is in question, no doctrinal teaching or command is jeopardized. In other words, the copies of the Bible we have today are pure. The Bible has not been corrupted, altered, edited, revised, or tampered with".
"Any unbiased document scholar will agree that the Bible has been remarkably well-preserved over the centuries. Copies of the Bible dating to the 14th century AD are nearly identical in content to copies from the 3rd century AD. When the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, scholars were shocked to see how similar they were to other ancient copies of the Old Testament, even though the Dead Sea Scrolls were hundreds of years older than anything previously discovered. Even many hardened skeptics and critics of the Bible admit that the Bible has been transmitted over the centuries far more accurately than any other ancient document.
There is absolutely no evidence that the Bible has been revised, edited, or tampered with in any systematic manner. The sheer volume of biblical manuscripts makes it simple to recognize any attempt to distort God’s Word. There is no major doctrine of the Bible that is put in doubt as a result of the inconsequential differences among the manuscripts.” (End quote)
Again, the question is. Can we trust the Bible?
Absolutely! God has preserved His Word despite the unintentional failings and intentional attacks of human beings. We can have the utmost confidence that the Bible we have today is the same Bible that was originally written. The Bible is God’s Word, and we can trust it (2 Timothy 3:16; Matthew 5:18)”{information below found via https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible}
The Authors
"About 40 different human authors contributed to the Bible, which was written over a period of about 1500 years. The authors were kings, fishermen, priests, government officials, farmers, shepherds, and doctors. From all this diversity comes an incredible unity, with common themes woven throughout".
"The Bible’s unity is due to the fact that, ultimately, it has one Author—God Himself. The Bible is “God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16). The human authors wrote exactly what God wanted them to write, and the result was the perfect and holy Word of God" (Psalm 12:6; 2 Peter 1:21).
"The Bible is divided into two main parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. In short, the Old Testament is the story of a nation, and the New Testament is the story of a Man. The nation was God’s way of bringing the Man—Jesus Christ—into the world".
What is the Bible? -
"Jesus is The central character in the Bible—the whole book is really about Him. The Old Testament predicts His coming and sets the stage for His entrance into the world. The New Testament describes His coming and His work to bring salvation to our sinful world".
"Jesus is more than a historical figure; in fact, He is more than a man. He is God in the flesh, and His coming was the most important event in the history of the world. God Himself became a man in order to give us a clear, understandable picture of who He is. What is God like? He is like Jesus; Jesus is God in human form (John 1:14, 14:9)". end quote
Without the Word of God, we wouldn’t know who Jesus is. Because of The word we have the ability to gain insight into His character. We witness faith and what it means to believe in the bible. We can relate to the character and stories we read. We gain knowledge of God because it most importantly is a book about God.
Examine yourself, as I once did, and ask: If we choose to deny scripture (or portions of it), and yet believe in Jesus... Why even believe at all?
